Early Royal Doulton Bunnykins Saucer Barbara Vernon
Last Price: $31.00 Ending Date and Time (GMT): 2004-11-21 09:32:38 [IMAGE]
Up for auction:
This delightful signed Barbara Vernon Bunnykins saucer, depicting a
bathroom scene of mischievous bunnies at bathtime, with the
usual hopping bunnies around the rim.
Size: Approximately 5.5" in diameter.
Marks: Stamped to the base with the early Royal Doulton Bunnykins
mark, and the number 4.
Condition: In fabulous condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or
restoration. There is one or two very very minor, light scratches to
the pattern consistent with usage over the years (please see pics).
Circa: 1930's to 1940's
The "Bunnykins" range - which depicted a family of rabbits gardening,
bathing, dancing, cooking, cuddling under a mushroom and netting a
cricket - was the brainchild of Cuthbert Bailey, general manager of
Doulton at Burslem, Staffordshire, in the 1930s. Instead of
commissioning a professional illustrator, he turned to his daughter
Barbara, who had joined the Augustinian Canonesses of the Lateran, and
asked her to produce some pictures for use on cups, plates and other
children's tableware.
We have listed this piece with a low starting price and no reserve to
encourage healthy bidding.
