Acting as a prism, a diamond can divide light into a spectrum of
colors and reflect this light as colorful flashes called fire. Just as
when looking through colored glass, color in a diamond will act as a
filter, and will diminish the spectrum of color emitted. The less
color in a diamond, the more colorful the fire, and the better the
color grade.
Color Chart
D: Absolutely colorless. The highest color grade, which is extremely
rare.
E: Colorless. Only minute traces of color can be detected by an expert
gemologist. A rare diamond.
F: Colorless. Slight color detected by an expert gemologist, but still
considered a "colorless" grade. A high-quality diamond.
G - H: Near-colorless. Color noticeable when compared to diamonds of
better grades, but these grades offer excellent value.
I - J: Near-colorless. Color slightly detectable. An excellent value.
K - Z: The color in diamonds graded K-Z detracts from the beauty of a
diamond. It's especially noticeable set in platinum or white gold.
What Color Grade Is Best?
* For the purist, look for a colorless diamond with a grade of D-F
and a fluorescence rating of faint, inert, none, or negligible.
* For an excellent value in a diamond with no noticeable color to
the unaided eye, look for a near-colorless grade of G-I, and a
fluorescence grade of medium or strong blue.
* Or, if you'd rather not compromise on color but would like to stay
on budget, choose a diamond with a good cut, SI1âSI2 clarity,
and consider going with a strong fluorescence. It will still be
beautiful to the unaided eye and you may prefer the unique effect
of a strong fluorescence.

Diamond Buying Guide
The quality and price of a diamond is determined by itâs weight
(carats), cut, clarity and colour. These factors are known as the â4
Câsâ. In order to make a sound purchase, it is important to
understand these criteria. The following information provides a brief
outline of diamond grading to assist you with making your purchase.
Carat
Diamond weight is measured in carats. One carat equals 0.2 grams, or
200 milligrams. The larger the diamond, the more expensive.
Cut
Cut is often used to refer to the shape. More accurately, cut refers
to the proportions of the diamond.
Colour
In general, the absence of colour in a diamond is valued, with the
exception of âfancyâ coloured diamonds which are rare and may
consist of all the colours of the rainbow. Generally, diamond colour
is graded according to the chart below, with D coloured diamonds being
the most rare and expensive. In practical terms, it is difficult to
tell the difference between J or K for instance.
Clarity
Clarity refers to the diamonds perfection. Imperfections in a diamond
may consist of natural inclusions of various minerals inside the
diamond or blemishes on the surface of the diamond. Clarity is graded
according to the chart below.

STEAL DEALS FROM US:
A $600 one carat diamond? Have you ever seen a one carat stone for
that little? You probably haven't, and a funny thing, is that your
local jeweler probably hasn't either known that it is possible to buy
diamonds at those prices.
Which is why he will first put our diamonds down more often than not.
Some people place a greater importance on diamond size and want a
bigger diamond, while others prefer the best quality, and still others
want a balance between size and quality.
OUR MOTIVE IS SIMPLE: STRAIGHT TALK, FABULOUS PRICES!
We bring diamonds within the reach of the common man at LESS THAN
WHOLESALE PRICES, thus without burning a hole in his pocket!
CERTIFIED SI & VS CLARITY GRADES:
If you want to buy that "ROCK" at the rock bottom prices just as
stores do, WITH US you can forgo the haughty service, the marble
floors and alabaster columns and the six inch pile carpet and pay cash
for an expensive item that you haven't held in your hand from someone
you cannot look in the eye and size up in the traditional ways, coz
you are buying online!
Our diamonds with VVS and VS grades are excellent choices for both
value and appearance. More affordable (and still a great choice) are
those diamonds which gemologists call "eye-clean" - diamonds with no
inclusions visible to the naked eye. These diamonds are SI1 and SI2
and unless the recipient carries a 10X loupe (a strong jewelry
magnifying glass), she won't see the inclusions. SI3 is high up there
too, between I1 & SI2.
It will put a sparkle and fire in the eyes of the one you love in a
way no other gift can. Your gift, like your love, will last forever.
So is this not the time to cut corners, but rather to get... to
give... the one enduring thing that will express your passion, your
love and your commitment perfectly ~ and forever.
!
MALL OR MAUL?
WHAT IS ACTUALLY SOLD IN MALLS?
The standard is about I2 clarity and I-K color... Often the 'special
offers' like the 5cts diamond bracelets have M-P color stones!
As for the cut... Very often 66% ++ depth (sometimes even higher than
70% ) in round stones. Princess cuts have 80% +++ tables and depths.
Check their websites for further proof - right now, the mall that
claims LOW PRICES, ALWAYS has for sale a 1.00 carat 4-prong yellow
gold solitaire ring - diamond is an I COLOR, I2 CLARITY grade
And the PRICE? You will be shocked to find how much you would and are
paying for such stuff! {What U get with us more or less for $600}
$2684 !!!!!!!!!
STRAIGHT TALK, FABULOUS PRICES!
Q. What if my jeweler's appraisal may not match with your appraisal?
A. In the first place, we do not write our own appraisals. We get our
diamonds, and diamond jewelry appraised from EGL [European Gemological
Laboratories] & GIA [Gemological Institute of America] - THEY ARE THE
TWO MOST REPUTED GEMOLOGICAL LABORATORIES IN THE WORLD TODAY. Even our
in-house grading is done by GIA graduate professionals.
Ask yourself this question: Would you take the word of an independent
jeweler over these two laboratories that have built a solid
reputation, specifically for Diamond grading, and are the most trusted
in the Diamond industry for over 25 years now?
If you take a piece of jewelry from us and show it to a jewelry store,
there is always a chance that the jeweler will be biased because he is
interested in selling his own jewelry. 90% of jewelry stores have
salespeople selling jewelry who do not know anything about diamonds
and their sole interest is to sell you their jewelry and will say
anything to downgrade a piece bought from someone else. Especially
online. Especially on an online auction, like on EBAY! Since opinions
are like belly buttons (everyones got one!) do understand that in a
lot of these quick 30-second jeweler evaluations mistakes can be made.
Especially since most jewelers wont charge you for 30 seconds of their
time.

Diamonds personify value. The luxury car, the private plane, the regal
fur are all passing pleasures. Diamonds are lifelong reminders of love
and attachment---and having sealed a bond for one generation, they can
be passed unblemished to the next. Diamonds are forever.
CROSS SECTION OF A DIAMOND
[IMAGE]
Diamond pricing is based on what is commonly known as:
THE 4 C's OF A DIAMOND:
CARAT
Carat (ct) is a standard of measure. 1ct.= 0.2grams. We now live in an
incredible technology era. You no longer have to accept approximate
weights. A one carat stone is commonly referred to as being 100
points, 0.50 carat = 50 points, 1/4 carat = 25 points, etc.
All other things being equal, the greater the carat weight, the rarer
the diamond and the more expensive it is. Although many people equate
"bigger" with "better," diamonds of all carat weight have the
potential to be lively, exciting, and beautiful. The most important
thing is to buy the one that's right for you.
To choose the ideal carat weight, consider the following:
The recipient's personal style, finger size, and the size and style of
the setting
Keep in mind that the smaller the finger, the larger the diamond will
appear. A 1.50 carat diamond solitaire looks much larger on a size 4
finger than a size 8.
If you have already chosen a setting, make sure you choose a diamond
that looks appropriate in the ring.
D - Pavilion depth H - Crown height
CUT
Many gemologists consider cutting quality to be the most important
diamond characteristic because even if a diamond has perfect color and
clarity, a diamond with a poor cut will have reduced brilliance. Cut
is not shape, ie, pear, round, oval. Cut refers to the quality of the
proportioning, polish, and symmetry.
The cut of a diamond--its roundness, its depth and width, and the
uniformity of the facets--all determine a diamond's ability to exhibit
brilliance.
The width and depth have the greatest effect on how light travels
within the diamond, and how it exits in the form of brilliance. As
cutting quality can be a confusing subject, ask your professional
jeweler about "ideal" proportions and request a cut grading report
from a major independent gemological laboratory like EGL USA.
Diameter: The width of the diamond as measured through the girdle.
Table: The flat top and largest facet of a gemstone.
Crown: The top portion of a diamond extending from the girdle to the
table.
Girdle: The narrow band around the widest part of a diamond.
Pavilion: The bottom portion of a diamond, extending from the girdle
to the point of the stone.
Culet: The facet at the tip of a gemstone. The preferred culet is not
visible with the unaided eye (graded "medium" or "none")
Depth: The height of a gemstone measured from the culet to the table.
Reflection
Refraction
Dispersion
[IMAGE]
A) When a ray of light touches the surface of a diamond, part of the
light is reflected back, this is external reflection.o:p>
B) The rest of the ray penetrates the stone and is then reflected
toward the center of the diamond. This is known as refraction.
C) The ray of light is reflected to the surface, where it is seen as
the colors of the spectrum. This is known as dispersion.
COLOR
Contrary to common belief, diamonds are not white! They actually come
in many different colours, commonly faintly yellow or brown. Generally
the most expensive or desirable colour is no colour at all
(colourless). There is now an internationally recognized colour
grading scale which starts at D (colourless), and goes down to Z
(light yellow). This grading scale only really applies to the yellow
series of diamonds. Other colours such as pale pink, blue, yellow or
red, are very rare and desirable. Intensely coloured diamonds are
known as "fancies" or fancy coloured diamonds, and if the colouring is
natural, they are again very rare and expensive.
Color is personal: some people like a diamond with an ice-cold
whiteness (colorless or near-colorless), while others prefer the
golden glow of a warmer color. Diamonds with no color like D, E, F,
are very rare and are more expensive than near-colorless (G, H, I, J)
diamonds.
Diamonds with a faint tinge of color (K, L, M, N, O) have a slightly
warm color and are more affordable. For those who want a larger
diamond within a certain budget, selecting diamonds with a lower color
grade may be the best option.
Less color is generally preferred but "fancy" is rare. Did you know
that diamonds come in every color of the rainbow? EGL USA has handled
thousands of these rare "fancy colors" and carat for carat, they're
the most expensive objects on the entire earth. Some of the highest
prices paid per carat are for colored diamonds.
Fancy colors include brilliant yellows, steely blues, soft pinks,
fiery oranges and more; there's even fancy white and black. If the
color is natural, as opposed to treated, the prices of these fancies
can be extremely high.
Below is the official color grading scale recognized by the
international diamond trade and laboratories like EGL USA. The scale
runs in order of rarity from colorless on the left to light yellow on
the right.
CLARITY
The degree to which a diamond is free of blemishes and inclusions.
Blemishes are external scratches, small nicks, and parts of the rough
crystal?s surface left on the finished stone. Inclusions are internal
- other mineral crystals (or diamond), feathers (breaks), traces of
distortion in the crystal structure, or even drill holes made with a
laser to lighten or remove other inclusions. Diamonds without
inclusions are more rare and command higher prices; inclusions lower
the clarity and the price.
Diamonds are assigned clarity grades based on what can be detected
with ten-power magnification. Most internal features (inclusions) and
external features (blemishes) in the diamond have little or no effect
on brilliance and fire.
So if small clarity characteristics do not affect a diamond's beauty,
why are diamonds with higher clarity grade so expensive? It's simply
because diamonds with relatively few clarity characteristics are very
rare. Fortunately, diamonds of all clarity grades and prices,
including those with eye-visible inclusions, can look beautiful
depending on how well they're cut and other factors. The best advice
is to look at several diamonds of different clarity grades and let
your eye be the guide!
These charts below will provide the definition of clarity grades and
give you some idea of how clarity grades compare to one another.
Remember, trained professionals perform clarity grading under
ten-power binocular magnification and the average person would have a
harder time locating clarity characteristics.

RARE DIAMONDS.....
One million years in the making....
What many people do not know about diamonds is that they were formed
under immense heat and pressure hundreds of miles below sea level.
After 100 million years of formation, volcanic explosions forced them
upward, exposing their natural beauty to the world. Diamonds were
formed more than 70 million years ago when diamond-bearing ore was
brought to the surface through volcanic eruption. After the magma
cooled, it solidified into blue ground, or kimberlite, where the
precious rough is still found today. Rated 10 on the Mohs scale of
hardness, diamonds are the hardest substances on earth, but their
appeal goes far beyond durability.
Adding to the mystery and aura of what make diamonds so sought-after,
approximately 250 tons of ore must be mined and processed in order to
produce a single, one-carat, polished, gem-quality diamond.
Mining and cutting
It was over 4,000 years ago that the first diamonds were mined in
India. Modern mining as we know it today began in South Africa in the
late 19th century. Today, the top seven diamond-producing countries,
accounting for 80 percent of the worlds rough diamond supply, are
Botswana, Russia, South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Australia and Zaire.
Q: How much would a one carat diamond cost?
Not a week goes by without someone asking us this question, and this
is the answer we give:-
The Price of any diamond depends on a number of factors. First, there
are the 4C's. These stand for Carat Weight, Cut, Colour, and
Clarity...
Price Ranges
There is a very wide price range between the best and the worst.
Please note that in the examples below, we are quoting retail prices.
TREASURE-POINT'S selling prices would be approximately 40% to 50%
below retail, AT LEAST.
Perfect - D Flawless ($26000.00).
For a 1 carat round modern brilliant cut diamond, D colour, IF
(internally flawless) clarity, well proportioned, well made, we would
estimate a retail value of $21,000.00; and at that quality, you should
expect to get a certificate from an internationally recognised gem
laboratory.
Cheapest
At the bottom end, we would estimate a retail price for a rejection
quality stone at, say, $250.00 Actually if you found or were given a 2
carat piece of rough (uncut) diamond, and took it to a diamond
polishing factory, you would probably have to pay at least $300 in
labor charges to end up with a 1 carat polished stone.
Reasonable quality
Next we get asked how much is a reasonable quality stone without going
"over the top". This is more difficult to answer because there is not
just one single simple answer, and a lot depends on personal
preference. The more you are prepared to spend, the better diamond you
will get, depending on whom you buy it from.
For E color, VVS1 clarity, the price would drop to around $14000.00
For F color, VS1 clarity, expect to pay $11,000.00
For G color, SI1 clarity, say, $9,000.00
For H color, I1 (P1) clarity, about $5500.00
